After moving the company from Chicago to California in the 1940s William Hahnlein started attaching new coverings over wood kneelers once natural foam rubber was invented. As an inventive person he wanted to make a better kneeler other than the heavy wood kneelers currently available. He came up with the Hamlin Kneeler; a lightweight, stronger, aluminum frame, with a much better pad.
Immediately this Hamlin Kneeler became a must-have in kneeling congregations and was installed nationwide. With the success of the new kneelers throughout the country, a second plant was opened in 1960 back in Chicago. Glen Hahnlein enters the family business as employee at the age of 15, and later becomes owner in 1991.
With continued innovation of church products, the Pew Form Cushion and Drop Front Cushion were created along with Spring-Lift Kneeler Brackets. Many other improvements were added throughout the years: different arm styles, extension brackets, floor brackets, and the high impact plastic leg integrating the non-removable foot.
Glen moved the company to Richmond, IL in the mid-eighties. In 2018 Sharon, long time employee, and her husband Chuck started negotiating the purchase of the company beginning a joint venture with Glen in Jan 2019.
